I don't know about you, but for me, getting my makeup base right, is the most important part of my daily routine. If my skin isn't looking the best it can, (and trust me, I do not have perfect skin!), then the rest of my makeup just doesn't look right. However, if I spend time on my base using the right foundation for my skin type, along with a good setting powder, then damn, I feel like Britney Spears (btw I bloody love Britney Spears!)

I don't want to focus on foundation in today's blog post, as I've already shared my go-to foundation with you in a prior post, so go check that out! Instead, I want to talk about the other base products I use - products that I apply after my foundation to help mattify my skin and prevent greasy breakouts.

For those of you wondering, my skin type is oily/combination. The type that after 4 hours of sitting in an office, starts to gleam with shine along my t-zone. This shine is not a beautiful dewy shine that some people would be jealous of, it's the kind of shine that creates my makeup masterpiece to literally start falling off my face! I'm sure I'm not the only person to have experienced this, and it's highly frustrating!

That's why, many years ago, I decided to invest in a good setting powder. Setting powders are great for us oily folks as they help keep our skin matte for longer. I've tried many setting powders in the past, but today, I want to share with you my two all time favourites!

The first setting powder is by Vichy and is the Dermablend Setting Powder in translucent. This has been a staple in my makeup bag for around 5 years now. It's extremely lightweight, and doesn't feel like you're caking on another layer to your base. It also provides a smudge, water-resistant finish and is great for sensitive skin. Conveniently, it comes with a little sponge to apply the powder to your face, so you don't need to worry about purchasing a new applicator. The price point for this Vichy powder is very reasonable, retailing from £13-£15 depending on where you buy it. I usually get mine from the feelunique website or Boots.

The second setting powder is by Laura Mercier and is the Loose Setting Powder in translucent. This powder is a newer addition to my makeup bag, but I have to say, I love it already! It provides a super smooth application and blends effortlessly. It sets your foundation base without adding weight or texture. Now, the product says sets your makeup for 12 hours, but in my experience (with both powders), I have to top up once during the day with a light dusting over my t-zone. That is not a criticism of the product, it's just that my skin gets extremely greasy during the day, and just needs a little extra help.

This powder is more expensive than the Vichy powder, retailing at £30.

Having used both setting powders, I can't really say I have a favourite - they are both amazing, and work really well for me.

If you are looking to purchase your first setting powder, then I'd recommend going for the Vichy Dermablend. The price point is considerably cheaper, and the product is just as good. It will also give you the chance to see if the product is suited to your skin type and if it gives you the finish you want.

So, that's all from me this week! Let me know in the comments below if you love setting powder as much as I do. And remember, 'be good to your skin. You'll live in it for the rest of your life'.
