So, it's now officially the summer! What springs to mind when you think of the summer season?
I think of ice cream (it's funny that's my first thought... but you can't beat an Exotic Solero!), warm breezes, golden skies, alfresco dining, cool lemonade, drives in the countryside, midges (it can't all be good!), weekend trips with friends, the sound of the sea (when I pop to the beach), the warmth of the sun on my face, and... festivals!
As much as I could quite happily do a blog post all about ice cream (because trust me I could!), this post is going to be focusing on the fun and magic of festival makeup.
Now, this might be controversial, but I actually enjoy the getting ready stage of going to a festival more than actually being there - madness I know! Maybe it's because I love makeup that much, and getting to experiment with glitter, sparkle and face jewels is the equivalent of a kid being in a candy shop and having unlimited access to whatever sweets they want.
Festivals are a place where you really get to experiment with your makeup - it's almost rude not to have some type of glitter on your face and body. You get to look like a Disney princess but on steroids, (I'm now actually really intrigued to see what Google images would have in store if you typed that in to the search bar... but I digress). My point is, you get a chance to wear makeup that you wouldn't normally get to wear, and you can have real fun with it.

Although the festival season may have got cancelled for 2020, I wanted to put in to practice my skills for 2021 and have a little fun experimenting with glitter and face jewels.
So, although the recent heatwave may have left us and it's been raining since 9am, I decided to get festival ready just to prance around at home.
For me, there are some key parts to festival makeup which you really need to get right. You have to plan for the day being quite hot and sweaty - not to mention it being long. Often partying from the morning all the way through - sometimes until the next morning (I've never been one of those people, I just can't do it, I need my sleep too much!).
Now for the fun bit - a list of all the key makeup items I would recommend to be festival ready!
A long lasting foundation base. You need a foundation that is going to be able to withstand the heat, sweat and duration of a long day. I would also suggest a medium to full coverage foundation, as you'll find they tend to stay put for longer. My suggestions would be the Dior Forever Matte foundation (fantastic staying power), the Too Faced Born This Way foundation (amazing full coverage), and lastly the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation (looks totally flawless in photos).
Setting spray. Once your foundation is on, make sure you set it so it stays for even longer. I would highly recommend the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist. It's a very light spray, smells gorgeous and most importantly helps to keep your makeup from budging.
Glitter. Of course, you can't go to a festival without a little (I mean A LOT) of glitter. I absolutely love the Rimmel Jelly Glitter Gels. They come in an array of different glitter shades and can be used on your body, face and eyelids. The great thing about this product is it's buildable. If you don't want the glitter to be too overpowering, you can apply just a little, however if you're like me, you can keep building and layering up to make you sparkle all day.

Face Jewels. If you fancy going all out, then you can also add face jewels (which of course I did). In the picture above I'm wearing a headpiece and eye jewel set from In Your Dreams. It's important to remember to apply these jewels on a makeup free face - you have to apply your makeup around the jewels, otherwise they won't stay on as long.
Lipstick. For me, the bolder the better with lipstick. I always go for a colour that really pops and will be sure to add a pearlescent type lipgloss over the top. The combination I'm wearing in these pictures is a Mac lipstick in the colour Rebel and a Mac Lipgloss in the colour Rave Bunny (rather fitting don't you think?!).

So, there you have it, my fun festival look - I really hope you like it?!
Be sure to let me know in the comments below what your festival go-to products are. Are you a glitter fan like I am? And remember, even if the festival season is cancelled for 2020, there's no harm in getting lots of practice in now for 2021.
