Today is the 4th of July 2020, and marks the day that hairdressers reopened in England. It's been 15 whole weeks since hairdressers closed their doors, without really knowing when they would open them again. 2020 has definitely been a testing year - a year that I don't think any of us expected. However, one thing I think everyone will agree on, is that Covid-19 has given us a little time to stop, breathe and appreciate the little things.
As some of you may know, I originally started my career as a Beautician, so I've always had the upmost respect for people in the hair and beauty industry. It's a tough and challenging environment to work in, not only do you need to meet people's high expectations every day, but you also become someone that people confide in, trust and share their lives with. People look forward to coming to you every 6 weeks to offload and gain some words of wisdom. So, needless to say, I've always appreciated my hairdresser and nail technician, and being given the opportunity to have a little ME time.
Carrying on with the hair theme, I wanted to write a post today about one of my favourite go-to hairdos. I feel the title of this post might've given it away, but for those being kept in suspense... I'm talking about the ponytail!
The ponytail is a real classic, no matter your age... I'm convincing myself of this, as I still wear a high top at the age of 35, and I reckon I'll still be rocking one at 80!
It's a super quick hairdo to achieve - all in all, mine takes around 10 minutes. I've been lucky enough to receive comments in the past from people thinking it's taken me a lot longer. Now, although I'd love for people to think I'm one of those early morning risers, drinking green tea and giving Madonna a run for her money in yoga... I'm not. I'm just not an early morning riser! Yes, I do like to look put together at all times, but that's why I opt for hairdos and makeup techniques that get me ready quickly... it's all about having those extra 5 minutes in dream land zzzz
Now, let me talk you through the few key things I do to achieve this effortless high ponytail.

Dry shampoo. Dry shampoo is like a best friend to me! It's great at covering any roots you may have, and also helps to make your hair more 'workable'. It helps take away the fluffiness, and makes it more stiff... for those that have used dry shampoo before, know what I mean! You're able to take more control of your hair and get it sitting and behaving how you want it to.
Bristle brush. Whenever I put my hair up in a ponytail, I use a natural bristle brush. I start by tipping my head upside down and brushing the underneath of my hair, I then flip my head back up, grabbing my hair into a ponytail and smoothing round the sides. Using a bristle brush helps to catch any flyaway hairs and gives you a smoother finish. I use the Denman bristle brush.
Curling wand or Dyson Airwrap. Once I've brushed my hair up into a ponytail and tied with a hair band, I'll then get to work with either a curling wand or my Dyson Airwrap. I really don't spend too long on this, I just take a couple of inches of hair at a time and curl as a go. I mainly focus on the front parts of my hair that will frame my face. (As you can see from the picture above).
Hair Oil. Once my ponytail is curled, I'll add some hair oil to help give the curls some definition. The hair oil I use is the Pantene Pro-V Dry Oil with Vitamin E.
Hairband. On days I want to add a little something extra to my ponytail look, I'll add a hairband. The one I'm wearing in the above picture is a Kazband, and makes me feel like I should be on holiday, not working behind a desk!

So there you have it, my 10 minute high ponytail hairdo!
