If you're a Coco Chanel lover, then not only will you recognise this quote, you'll really believe in it too.
As most of you will know, I've been a makeup lover for many years, however, my colour palette of choice has always been quite limited. Smokey brown/gold eyes and pink lips. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong in having a signature look, it's what makes you you! However, I do think it's important to step out of your comfort zone every now and again and experiment with new, exciting looks!
There are so many colour palettes out there just waiting for you to try them. That's why I decided to invest in the Tammi Tropical Twilight palette by Revolution. This eyeshadow palette has a real mixture of golds, browns, purples, blues, greens and lots of sparkles!
When I first laid eyes on this palette, I was tempted to go for my usual smokey brown eye... but then I channelled my inner Coco Chanel, and decided to go for something different. After studying all the colours (there are a lot!), I settled on a blue/green combination, with the thought of becoming a mermaid for the day... I've always wanted to be Ariel!

As you can see from the picture above, this palette has a great choice of both matte and glitter shades. It would be a perfect makeup item to take on holiday with you, you could try different looks each evening from vibrant pops of colour, to a more subtle smokey eye finish. Also, this palette retails at only £20, which is such a bargain considering the colour choice you get.
So, are we all ready to tap into our inner Ariel... come on, what girl hasn't A: wanted to be a Disney princess, and B: wanted to be a mermaid at some point in her life?!
The colours I used to create this magical, under the sea (like what I did there?!) look, are as follows:
Dawn. I used Dawn as a transition and base shade throughout this look. It's a beautiful matte beige/peachy shade which acts as the perfect base to add layers.
Nightsky. I then used the colour Nightsky across my lid. This is a stunning light blue, sparkly shade. It's best applied using your finger which helps to add the colour transfer.
Ocean. Next was Ocean. Ocean is a deep blue, sparkly shade. I applied this again with my finger, but just on the outer corner of my lids.
Nightfall. Nightfall is a deep blue matte shade. This shade worked perfectly in the crease of my eye. I applied this using an angled eyeshadow brush. Make sure before you apply, you tap the brush a little to get off any excess powder.
Starry Night. Starry Night was the next shade I used in this palette, and it's a stunning green/turquoise sparkly colour. I applied a very light layer across my whole lid using my finger.
Nightfall. I then went back to nightfall to line the bottom of my eye. I find using a deeper shade to line the bottom of your eye, helps create the illusion of bigger eyes.
Remember to blend throughout each colour transition. It's such an important step, as you don't want to be left with harsh lines and blocks of colour on your lid.

You can see from the above the finished look, that the sparkly eyeshadows work wonders at catching the light, especially if you have the flash set up on your camera. This would be the perfect look for a summer holiday evening, sitting eating dinner alfresco by the sea... admit it, you're now thinking of being on holiday, having the ocean breeze through your hair, and maybe sipping on your favourite cocktail?
I decided to compliment this look with a neutral lip colour. The lip colour I'm wearing in this picture is by MAC. Both the lipstick and lip gloss are in the colour Myth, which is a classic nude combination and perfect to wear when your eyes are popping blue!
I really hope you enjoyed this mermaid inspired look just as much as I did.
Tell me in the comments box below, what colour combination you would have gone for using this beautiful palette. And remember Coco Chanel's words: 'The best colour in the whole wide world is the one that looks good on you'.
Love,
Jesse Joy xx
